Government Science College, Jabalpur, is deeply committed to providing a barrier-free, inclusive, and supportive environment for differently-abled (Divyangjan) students and stakeholders. In strict compliance with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act and UGC guidelines, the college has developed targeted physical, academic, and digital infrastructure to ensure equal access to quality scientific education.
1. Physical Infrastructure & Campus Accessibility
The college campus has been progressively upgraded to ensure independent and dignified mobility for physically challenged individuals.
-
Ramps and Handrails: Built at primary entry points, main building blocks, and ground-floor laboratory complexes to ensure seamless wheelchair access.
-
Disabled-Friendly Restrooms: Specially designed, spacious washrooms equipped with grab bars, wide doorways, and non-slip flooring.
-
Ground-Floor Academic Allocations: Priority seating and classroom/examination room allocations on the ground floor to eliminate vertical mobility challenges.
2. Academic Support & Examination Concessions
Tailored administrative mechanisms are in place to remove learning and assessment barriers:
-
Scribe Facility: Provision of competent scribes/writers during internal and university examinations for visually impaired or orthopedically disabled students, adhering to standard government protocols.
-
Compensatory Time: Extra time allowance (typically 20 minutes per hour) during written examinations as sanctioned by Rani Durgavati Vishwavidyalaya and Higher Education rules.
-
Peer Support Networks: Student volunteers and NSS cadets assist Divyangjan peers in navigating laboratory sessions, library book issues, and campus events.
